• UHD Extra-Low Dispersion Glass: The UHD lens system uses extra-low dispersion glass to keep chromatic fringing to a minimum, so target edges, impacts and reticle holds stay sharp and easy to read at the top end of the 30× magnification range.

The Athlon Midas TAC line has long been one of the most frequently recommended riflescope families in the Athlon range, and the Gen2 generation carries that concept forward with updated optics and mechanics. The series is aimed at shooters who want a dedicated precision shooting riflescope with dialling turrets and a ranging reticle, without moving into the price class of high-end competition optics.

The current Midas TAC Gen2 line-up covers three magnification ranges: the compact 4–16×44, the versatile 6–24×50, and the long-range 5–30×56 UHD. Every model uses a first focal plane reticle, which keeps reticle subtensions valid throughout the zoom range and makes the scopes well suited to holdover-based shooting, ranging and fast follow-up corrections.

Shooters can choose between MIL and MOA reticle and turret configurations, depending on model, so the scope can be matched to the ballistic data and spotting system a shooter already uses. Athlon's APRS reticles are laid out for precision rifle and long-range target work, while the APLR reticles use a long-range drop-line design suited to both tactical and hunting applications.

Typical uses include long-range target shooting, precision rifle training, varmint and predator shooting, and long-range hunting, where a clean reticle, repeatable turret adjustments and reliable return to zero matter more than ultra-light weight.

ABOUT THE MODEL (ATHLON MIDAS TAC GEN2 UHD 5-30X56)

The Athlon Midas TAC Gen2 UHD 5-30x56 is the long-range flagship of the Midas TAC Gen2 series and the only model in the line built with UHD glass. Its 6× zoom ratio runs from 5×, where the wide field of view helps with target acquisition and spotting impacts, up to 30× for reading small targets and placing precise holds at extended distances. The large 56 mm objective lens and 34 mm one-piece aluminium main tube support a bright image and generous internal adjustment travel.

The extra-low dispersion UHD glass works together with Advanced Fully Multi-Coated lenses to reduce colour fringing and maintain light transmission, brightness and natural colour rendition. An XPL protective coating on the exterior lenses helps keep them clean in field conditions.

Two illuminated, etched glass first focal plane reticles are available. The APLR16 FFP IR MOA reticle combines a 0.2 MOA floating centre dot with 1 MOA hash marks and drop lines every 5 MOA down to 50 MOA, giving clear reference points for bullet drop, wind and moving targets. The APRS16 FFP IR MIL reticle, designed with precision rifle series competition in mind, uses a 0.05 MIL floating centre dot and fine 0.2 MIL increments, with a dot grid expanding to 4 MIL per side at the 10 MIL drop line for quick, detailed holdovers. Illumination is adjustable through a dial with off positions between each brightness setting, so the shooter can switch it off without cycling through the full range.

The exposed elevation turret offers 0.25 MOA or 0.1 MIL clicks, with 25 MOA or 10 MIL per rotation, and is paired with a capped windage turret that protects the windage setting from accidental movement. Total travel reaches 100 MOA / 30 MIL in elevation and 70 MOA / 23 MIL in windage, providing ample range for long-distance shooting. A fast focus eyepiece, side parallax adjustment and high precision erector system complete the package, and the argon-purged housing is waterproof, fogproof and shockproof.
