ABOUT THE ARES BTR GEN3 HD SERIES

The Athlon Ares BTR GEN3 HD series is a line of first focal plane riflescopes that brings features typically found on higher-priced scopes to a more accessible price range. The third generation is designed for shooters who need a dependable optic for hunting, tactical shooting, and long-range precision shooting, without moving into the premium category.

The series currently includes two models: the 2.5-15×50, a versatile all-rounder for short to long distances, and the 4.5-27×50, which is aimed at shooters who prefer more magnification for long-range work. Both models are available with the illuminated APRS13 FFP IR MIL or APLR13 FFP IR MOA reticle, so shooters can choose the measurement system that matches their ballistic data and turrets.

All models use HD glass with low dispersion lenses, advanced fully multi-coated optics, and an XPL protective coating on the external lens surfaces. Mechanically, the series features exposed turrets with a precision zero stop, a high precision erector system, and side focus parallax adjustment. The one-piece aircraft-grade aluminium tube is argon purged and built to be waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof for reliable use in the field.

ABOUT THE MODEL (ATHLON ARES BTR 4.5-27X50 GEN3 HD)

The Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27×50 GEN3 HD is a first focal plane riflescope built for long-range shooting, precision rifle work, and hunting at extended distances. Compared to the previous generation, the GEN3 receives a larger stainless steel turret design, similar to the one used on the Midas TAC and Ares ETR lines, with sharper and more tactile clicks, as well as a new optical system for a bright and clear image throughout the magnification range.

The 4.5–27× magnification range gives the shooter enough detail at 27× to read small targets and spot impacts at long distances, while the low end remains practical for locating targets and engaging at medium ranges. The 50 mm objective lens, HD glass, and advanced fully multi-coated lenses support good image brightness and true colour rendition.

The scope is available with two illuminated first focal plane reticles. The APRS13 FFP IR MIL reticle features 0.2 mil subtension spacing for fine elevation and windage holds and an open center with a 0.05 mil floating dot. Its main crosshair is illuminated from -2 to +6 mils vertically and 2 mils left and right of the center. The APLR13 FFP IR MOA reticle offers a 0.2 MOA floating dot, 1 MOA hash marks with wider marks every 5 MOA and numbers every 10 MOA, and an open 2 MOA center gap. Its main cross is illuminated from -10 to +30 MOA vertically and over 20 MOA horizontally. In both versions, the open center keeps small targets visible at high magnification. The etched glass reticles offer variable brightness settings with off positions between each level and are powered by a CR2032 battery.

The exposed turrets provide 0.1 MIL clicks with 10 MIL per rotation and 24 MIL of total adjustment on the MIL version, or 0.25 MOA clicks with 25 MOA per rotation and 80 MOA of total adjustment on the MOA version. The elevation turret features a precision zero stop, and the turret knobs are removable for setting the zero. The 30 mm main tube, side focus parallax adjustment from 23 m (25 yds) to infinity, a fast focus eyepiece, and an included throw lever complete the package. With a weight of 774 g and a length of 351 mm, the scope stays compact for its magnification range.
